IN THE SCHOOLS

INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING - one on one sessions with a PYS social worker, based on a referral by a teacher, counselor, or other administrator; Usually scheduled once per week.

GROUP COUNSELING - PYS social workers identify an issue, in collaboration with the school counselors and administrators, and schedule group sessions for 1 -2 months, usually once per week.

Groups have included:

  • Grief and loss
  • Divorce & Separation
  • Social Skills
  • Personal space
  • Problem Solving
  • Friendship and kindness

CLASSROOM TEACHER PRESENTATIONS - PYS social workers in collaboration with the school counselors and administrators, identify a broader student issue, such as bullying, and schedule one or more classroom presentations. Topics have included:

  • Stress mangement
  • Eating disorders
  • Self mutilation
  • Conflict resolution
  • Bullying
  • Sportsmanship

CRISIS INTERVENTION / CRISIS TEAM - PYS social workers are contacted by PCSD Administration to address a crisis situation at a particular school, or within the district.

HOME VISITS - When needed, PYS social workers visit the home of a student to more fully assess the situation and provide information, referral and services.

PREVENTIVE PROGRAMS - Listening Post, Here and Now, Saturday Morning Detention

AT OUR OFFICE

INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING - PYS social worker meets with individual child, when meetings at the child's school are not in the best interests of the child. Assessment is done by PYS Executive Director, PYS school social worker, and PYS community social worker
FAMILY COUNSELING - PYS social worker meets with all / part of a family for counseling. Intake form is completed during the first visit. Co-payments apply. Solution-focused brief counseling with eventual referral.
 
PARENTING EDUCATION PROGRAMS - 1-2-3 Magic, Surviving Your Adolescents, Through the Looking Glass, Fears and Worries
